After many years of thinking, when my daughter was 19 years old,we asked her many times before we started purchasing jewellery for her.One such jewellery were a pair of big antique jhumkas(traditional South-Indian earrings),which she wanted for a long time. They were very expensive. All these years we had bought jewellery which both of us could wear.Since this was not my type of jewellery,we bought it only after careful consideration.
With her dance background and long hair, and the traditional looks she had(though she was not in mind, body and soul),we thought it will suit her well. She wore it for all the weddings with great happiness. Many of them got attracted, appreciated and asked us the details of the cost, weight and design. So we thought we will go in for the next purchase.
All of a sudden, there comes my daughter, with a fresh, stylish, funky, short bob cut!!!!!She told me that it was a makeover for her 21st birthday.
My first reaction was,"What will you do with those big jhumkas?!.If you had told me that you had plans to chop your hair,I would have bought a smaller one that I could have worn until my hair turns grey.I would also pass it on to my grand daughter."
My next reaction was about the effort, the time and the money spent on the various hair oils,anti-lice shampoos to maintain a long and curly hair..............................went in vain.
My final question was,"How much did you pay for this makeover and all the necessary conditioners to maintain such a hairstyle?".I was shell shocked when I heard the price.I also remarked that if I had put in some more money,I would have been able to buy a diamond necklace or would have gone to Paris,a city of my dreams. After hearing this,my son shouted that he would have bought the latest gaming consoles,Adidas shoes, gear cycles and all that was required to make to keep him happy for the rest of his life!
My very angry, annoyed, irritated daughter asked me to take a chill pill.(Is it available in the medical store? I indeed needed one;).Pleadingly,my daughter asked me,"Please tell me Amma! How do I look now?".Though it looked cute on her,my mind was all on the amount I paid for the jhumkas.
Enoying all these,my husband thought that he will not be disturbed for some time for these expensive jewellery;)
After a few months,my daughter, hugged me and asked if we could buy an elegant pair of platinum earrings which will suit her present hairstyle.Seeing all this my husband packed his bags for a business tour for 2 weeks, murmuring that elegant paper jewellery is available and is in fashion;)
