Don't Call Me Aunty

I get very annoyed when the grown up boys and girls,(No No.I will mention them as young adults) .........................calling me Aunty!!!

Sometimes,I rush back home and stand in front of the mirror to check if my skin is so sagged that I look like aunty. I know I don't have my daughter's hip size, I don't even wear my glasses(atleast not in public places)so I don't know what gives it away .This has made me wonder many times if I had to go for a makeover( daughter's influence).

I am careful now ,especially when I am about to walk through the door which reads push or pull.(You know what I would do). There will be someone calling out to me loudly in that place," Aunty!! Please pull the door ................ They don't know that its habitual and not due to my aunty figure.

I feel good when I visit a parlour for a haircut, as the girls always ask me if I have dyed my hair.I proudly turn to look at them and say, "NO NO, Not yet." I know my very close jealous friends are waiting for that day to see me with grey hair.

One day, my daughter came running to me, fuming with anger, " Can't these mothers teach these small kids how to call people. They called me aunty!!! instead of Akka."(My mind voice: Now do you understand my feelings.)

My husband's big (both ways) nephews and nieces calling me 'Aunty'(Mami) is something I couldn't accept till date. :|

I never knew until recently that my counterparts also feel the same,........Don't like to be called Uncle!!! A sigh of relief that we are not the only one. ;) Maybe our minds are still young.

At what age does a woman shift from a big sister to an aunt?

In her forty's,she becomes a mature beauty.

Though I know youth will not remain forever, getting older too is not that bad. Still I don't want to be called Aunty!!!

Do you think this perception is harsh or fair?

Please call me by my name.
